Thursday 8th September
08:30 - 10:30
Sub-committee: Bill Nelson, DNVGL; Lars Olav Grovik, Statoil; Raphaele Henri-Bally, TOTAL.
Speaker: Paul Bradley, Operations Manager Health and Safety, UK Health & Safety Executive; Jay Hollingsworth, Chief Technology Officer, Energistics; Torleif Husebø, Head of Process Integrity Section, Petroleum Safety Authority
The IE conference will explore development and application of intelligent energy concepts including advanced analytics, digitalisation, and automation to support oil & gas operations. This special session will provide a forum to address the critical regulatory issues that must be addressed to deploy and gain the full benefits of IE concepts. Of particular interest will be the regulatory requirements to gain approval to deploy these concepts in operation, and ways that industry and regulatory bodies can work together so that regulatory issues can be addressed without creating roadblocks for implementation of beneficial technologies.
Panellists will represent regulatory bodies concerned with both production and safety issues across diverse geographical regions and regulatory approaches. The panellists will be invited to share personal experience on topics such as:
- How can the digital age enable communication and consensus amongst stake holders, effective decision making, and design of the proper regulations?
- Is it possible to encourage purpose-driven collaboration between regulatory authorities and industry groups for timely and effective resolution of key regulatory issues?
Session attendees will benefit from interaction with the panellists to explore critical regulatory issues that must be addressed and possible pathways to realise the full benefits of IE.
