Webinars

What is a Webinar?

SPE, together with the Webinar Steering committee (volunteers from the 2010 SPE Intelligent Energy Programme Committee) are to invite several authors, who presented their high quality technical presentations at this year’s Intelligent Energy event, to participate in these LIVE Webinars. Each LIVE Webinar will take place around the 20th of each month, starting with July 2010 and will last approximately 1 hour. Registration to join the Webinars will be included in an SPE email broadcast shortly.

Webinar 17 - Tuesday 21st February 2012

Title: Antipatterns: A Tool for Continuous Improvement

Time: 14:00 GMT

Missed this webinar? The recording is now available.

Presenter: David R Feineman, BP

Description: This talk puts a spotlight on the worst practices in digital oilfield projects.  It applies the concept of a process antipattern, a special form of pattern that is routinely followed but is ineffective or has negative consequences.

As presented at the 2010 Intelligent Energy Conference, the objective in studying antipatterns is to identify suboptimal performance, and replace it with better practices.  Antipatterns in the implementation of digital oilfield projects derived from ten years of projects will be described, some of which may be happening at other operators and suppliers as well. It concludes with a description of how continuous improvement enabled by antipatterns differs from more traditional approaches to project lessons learned, and why they represent a better way to capture and reuse experience based learning.

The SPE Webinar will be moderated by one of the Steering Committee members. The author will have a webcam and therefore both they and their presentation will be visible on your screen. Following the presentation, participating delegates will be able to ask questions directly to the author. It will also be possible to type a question in the “chat” box (also visible on your screen) for the moderator to consolidate during the presentation, and address after the presentation has finished.

What are the Benefits?

The Webinars will be conducted via Webex, and are designed to provide you with the following benefits:-

  • Allow you to listen to and watch a high quality technical presentation from the comfort of your own office, that you may have missed during the Intelligent Energy conference in March 2010.
  • Allow you to ask the author questions following the presentation
  • Keep abreast of what’s current within the Intelligent Energy community between the annual SPE IE events

Not Available for the Webinar?

One final excellent benefit is that, should delegates not be available for any of the LIVE Webinars, it will be available for viewing via the SPE Intelligent Energy event website, immediately following each session.
